Value-Trap was inspired by The Intelligent Investor and Benjamin Graham’s approach to value investing, specifically Graham’s strategy of focusing on companies with solid balance sheets and low price to book ratios compared with popular competitors. My hypothesis is simple: maybe there is a time in a team or individual’s season where an opportunity may arise where some value can be obtained from backing a team relative to the way they have paid out over the course of the season. If there is value to be obtained from these metrics beyond entertainment, please use this information at your own risk. From my time working in the industry, I learned that pretty much any bet or trade executed on a sportsbook against a single market maker is a losing proposition, with spreads(or vig) too large for 99.9% of bettors to overcome long term. If there is any hope for the retail bettor or trader looking to profit long term beyond a lucky strike of lightning, their strategy would have to utilize access to multiple prediction market platforms where market makers(plural) are competing with one another to offer customers the best price available in combination with some favor that could be provided from a mass psychological setup.
Value-Trap is dedicated to my father who has spent 30+ years in the wealth management business servicing his clients and all of my old team members at Sporttrade who were always patient, supportive, and helpful when it came to any technical questions I had when it came to building a data driven application. I would also like to thank all my old coworkers at Bergen Logistics and Blink Fitness who were the original figures in my life that helped bring my technical knowledge up to speed. Most importantly, this site would not have been possible without the love and support of my friends and family. While it may seem like a lot of info on the site, this small bit of info is just a speck in God’s great universe.
